Households need waste collected. Local enterprises provide the service. DortiBox helps connect the two.

Freetown Waste Transformers developed DortiBox to help households and businesses request waste collection and to support the wider waste management system. MeDomot worked with FWT as the app development partner.

From a shared brief to a working app.

The published ODI case study records that FWT signed a contract with MeDomot in April 2022. It describes a four-month development period and a MeDomot project team of 11, including product design, software analysis, and engineering roles.

The service included customer and waste collector applications. Customers could select their location, describe their waste, and request or schedule collection. The case study also describes mobile money integration and the later addition of cash on pickup.

   Understand the context

   A needs assessment brought together FWT, Freetown City Council, waste management stakeholders, and residents before development.

   Build and test

   A functional version was refined through a user-testing workshop, followed by a pilot with waste collection enterprises.

   Learn from use

   Feedback informed adjustments, including a cash-on-pickup option. The report describes a beta rollout in February 2023 and a wider launch in May 2023.
